Offshore, nearshore, onshore: what is the difference?
Offshore means delivery handed to a distant country, often several hours away, such as India or Southeast Asia. Nearshore relies on a country that is close geographically and culturally: for a French company, Tunisia is about a two-and-a-half-hour flight from Paris, zero to one hour apart. Onshore stays in the same country.
Nearshore in Tunisia brings several strengths together: a pool of engineers and developers trained in web technologies, everyday use of French and English, and a production cost below that of a local team. With Canada, the difference is five to six hours, which still leaves several shared working hours every day.
Which activities can be outsourced nearshore?
Almost any development or operations activity can be handed to a nearshore team, provided it is described and followed up. Decisions that commit your product or customer relationships usually stay in-house, with someone on your side to arbitrate.

How do you keep control of an outsourced project?
Control does not come from physical proximity but from explicit working rules. We write them down with you at the start: who decides, who approves, at what pace, with which tools and which indicators.
In practice, the team works in your tools (tickets, code repositories, messaging), regularly presents what has been delivered and flags risks early. Code is reviewed, tested and versioned in a repository you hold the access to, and documentation is kept current so that another team could take over the project.

How much does outsourcing development to Tunisia cost?
Cost depends on the chosen model, the size and seniority of the team, the length of the engagement and the skills required. With staff augmentation or a dedicated team, it is based on time spent; on a fixed-price basis, it is set after scoping for a defined scope.
Production costs in Tunisia are lower than for a local team in France or Canada. When comparing offers, also look at the less visible costs: coordination time, rework caused by delayed exchanges, team turnover and knowledge transfer. That is often where far offshore loses its advantage.

Security, GDPR and intellectual property
Team access is named, limited to what is needed and revocable at any time. Development and staging environments are separate from production, and test data is anonymized whenever possible.
Tunisia does not benefit from a European Commission adequacy decision: if the team needs access to the personal data of your European customers, that transfer must be framed, for example with standard contractual clauses. In most projects, anonymized data is enough in development. Ownership of the code and deliverables is yours, under the terms set in the contract.

For a French company, Tunisia is a nearshore destination: zero to one hour of time difference, everyday use of French and a flight of about two and a half hours.
Because coordination costs less when working days overlap and exchanges can happen in French. Far offshore shows lower hourly rates, but the time difference, language and written back-and-forth lengthen lead times and multiply rework. Nearshore reduces those hidden costs.
Tunisia stays on UTC+1 all year round: the same time as Paris in winter, one hour behind in summer. With Montréal, the difference is five to six hours depending on the season: Montréal mornings match Tunis afternoons, which leaves several shared working hours.

Not necessarily. Production costs are lower than for a local team, but the real saving depends on how clear the need is, how stable the team is and how much coordination it takes. Poorly scoped outsourcing can cost more than it saves: that is why we start with scoping.
Knowledge must live in documents and repositories you control, not in a developer’s head. We document the architecture, procedures and decisions, and the code is versioned in your repositories. A handover to your teams or to another team therefore remains possible.
With our French, Canadian or Tunisian company, as you prefer. A company based in France can therefore contract with our French entity, which carries the invoicing and the responsibility for the result.
